In the Season of Discovery, mages are still a potent DPS class, but they may now function as healers thanks to new mage runes.

Despite being a very strong and valuable class, mages have traditionally been restricted to DPS roles in World of Warcraft. A fourth “spec” that Mage Runes introduces to the class in the Season of Discovery is the Chronomancer, a healer and time-manipulator who can reverse damage. However, there are some of the best DPS Runes in SoD for players who would rather not take on the support role.

There were twelve SoD Mage Runes available in Phase One for the Chest, Legs, and Gloves slots. Six more Mage Runes were added in Phase Two for the Boots and Belt slots, bringing the total number of runes across all five slots to eighteen. Every Mage SoD Rune’s placement and effects are described in depth in this guide.

Updated by Erik Petrovich on March 1, 2024: The SoD Mage Rune meta is always changing because of the regular upgrades that the Season of Discovery has seen thus far. Because of a random SoD patch or hotfix, certain runes that might have seemed pointless early in a Phase could end up being quite potent thereafter. When you reach maximum level, it’s a good idea to locate every last SoD Mage Rune location before worrying about which Mage Runes are the greatest. That way, you’ll be ready for any changes in the SoD meta without having to go back and gather Runes you missed.Because of this, the locations and effects of each Mage Rune in SoD are now the main emphasis of this guide, rather than their ranking.

Every Magic Chest Rune

Regeneration, Enlightenment, Fingers of Frost, and Burnout

Rewind Time is the Healing Rune that Mages receive on their Gloves slot. This may be the only way Mages may cure Tanks who have taken too much damage all at once. With this power, you may turn back time and reverse any damage done in the previous five seconds. While it’s not a direct heal, Mages should be able to finish group content on their own with its assistance.

The following three skills are mostly related to the Arcane, Frost, and Fire specifications of the Mage: Arcane Blast for Arcane, Ice Lance for Frost, and Living Bomb for Fire.

Simple Arcane energy explosion, Arcane explosion raises its own mana cost and deals 15% more damage to other Arcane abilities each time it is cast. If used consecutively, Arcane Blast can stack up to four times.

However, Arcane Blast is not as good as both Ice Lance and Living Bomb. Ice Lance will frequently deliver triple damage in a Frost Build, especially when the Fingers of Frost Rune are inserted into the Chest. One of the greatest Fire spells accessible to mages is Living Bomb, which may destroy a target’s allies in addition to them, even if it is dispelled.
