Kickstarter has successfully funded Rollin’ Rascal, an independent platformer with influences from Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Switch.
The demo’s momentum-based challenges and sense of speed, which were reminiscent of 3D Sonic games, impressed players.
Once the campaign reaches $100K, the Nintendo Switch version and more main character attire are unlocked. A Hub World and additional clothes are among the new stretch objectives.
The independent platformer Rollin’ Rascal, which draws inspiration from Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros., has successfully reached its stretch goal on Kickstarter in order to have a Nintendo Switch version. At first, Rollin’ Rascal released a demo level on Steam along with their Kickstarter campaign at the start of February. Fans were able to experience its fast-paced gameplay, which was modeled after previous 3D Sonic adventures such as Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations, and also featured aspects from 3D Super Mario Bros. games. The gameplay was reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Several players who experienced the demo expressed their admiration for Rollin’ Rascal, complimenting him on the momentum-based challenges and fast-paced gameplay of the 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games. With a distinctive twist, it included well-known moves like Sonic’s double leap, spin attack, and homing dash. The fact that Rollin’ Rascal had raised $50,000 within 12 hours of its start is perhaps not shocking. Rollin’ Rascal’s campaign has also achieved one of its largest stretch goals, according to a recent announcement from Curiomatic.
The developers of Rollin’ Rascal were thrilled to announce on the Kickstarter page that the campaign has raised over $100,000. Rollin’ Rascal will be released on the Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam after reaching this milestone. The codes can be redeemed on Steam or the Nintendo eShop by all digital backers who contribute to the campaign. Beyond the shorts and sneakers Rascal wore in the announcement trailer, achieving the stretch goal of $100K provided him access to other wardrobe options. Sleepwear, racing gear, and even a dinosaur onesie are among these new outfits.

At $150K, Rollin’ Rascal’s developers plan to create a Hub World where users may explore and enjoy a variety of platforming challenges and levels. An additional target, Outfit Pack 02, was introduced to the campaign once it was revealed that the Outfit Pack 01 stretch goal had been met. The creators will give Rascal four more outfits to wear if the campaign raises $225,000: a cowboy, astronaut, snorkeling gear, and snowman-themed clothing.
Numerous critics have lauded Rollin’ Rascal’s ideas, even suggesting that they are on par with or even better than some of the best 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games, despite the fact that numerous titles have been influenced by Sega’s franchise. The online multiplayer option was hailed for its innovative features, which allowed players to compete against one another in four different areas with several passageways and shortcuts to find. Already, Rollin’ Rascal looks like a lighthearted spin on the concepts of Sega’s renowned franchise.
