A new documentary about the game’s creation claims that Bloodborne was one of the main inspirations for starting to create The Last of Us Part 2. However, the production team eventually decided to pursue other avenues.

Like The Last of Us, not many popular video games have attracted a cult following. Both volumes are regarded as classics in the video game industry, with a large fan base and the notion that they represent the author’s creation. As a result, both games have received extremely harsh criticism, leaving little opportunity for in-depth examination. Apart from the fact that their own creators are always able to discuss it and reveal locations we were unaware ever existed.

The documentary Grounded II, which delves inside the making of The Last of Us Part II, was unveiled on February 3. It has already received more than 750,000 views since then. An impressive feat for a two-hour documentary that bravely gives voice to every important actor involved and covers every facet of the process. A few of them provide us information we never would have thought to know.

As stated in the video, Emilia Schatz, the primary designer of the game, claimed that during the first four months of production, the most surprising game that sprang to mind served as inspiration for the game: Bloodborne.Their goal was to create a setting akin to Bloodborne, in which Yharnam is essentially a character unto itself and the map expands as you play. The co-director of the game, Anthony Newman, claims that Bloodborne served as inspiration for this strategy, which placed a focus on melee combat. Nevertheless, this concept was nearly scrapped because it wasn’t thought to work for The Last of Us.

The idea of a The Last of Us Part 3 is one of the documentary’s most stunning facts, and it has partly eclipsed everything else. In this documentary, the franchise’s director and creator, Neil Druckmann, states that although he currently lacks a plot, current events have inspired him to carry on his previous work. Though it’s on the table, it doesn’t imply he will do it.

There is uncertainty over The Last of Us’s future. On January 19, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was made available for the PlayStation 5, with additional game modes and previously unreleased material.
