A highly credible Atlus insider mentioned in passing a number of upcoming Persona remakes that Atlus is rumored to be working on.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Atlus is rumored to be working on the remakes of the second and fourth mainline Persona games.
  •  The purported remakes are likely years away from hitting the market. It is unclear whether the rumored reimagining of Persona 2 will only include the 1999 Innocent Sin or also encompass its 2000 sequel, Eternal Punishment.
  •  Persona 2 was already treated to one remake back in 2011, although that release was met with a mixed reception.

According to a reliable source, Atlus is now working on remakes of the second and fourth Persona mainline games. Their assertion suggests that Persona 3 Reload, which was just released, is only the beginning of the Japanese company’s endeavors to adapt some of the franchise’s classic Persona entries for contemporary audiences.

RPG fans have been asking for Atlus to remake the older Persona games ever since the company officially announced its intentions to revisit the third numbered entry in the franchise, which has just released to critical acclaim on February 2. There has also been no shortage of support for a potential Persona 4 remake, although the 2008 title still holds up fairly well relative to its 2D predecessor.

That being said, it’s possible that both titles may be brought up again in the future. That’s according to renowned Atlus insider Midori, who recently mentioned teasingly on Twitter that the Japanese firm is already working on the Persona 2 and Persona 4 remakes. The leaker did not provide any details, so fans were left to conjecture about the two projects’ current states. It’s unknown if the rumored Persona 2 remake will solely cover Persona 2: Innocent Sin, which came out in 1999, or if it will also include Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, which came out in 2000.

Midori has been leaking a lot of information about Atlus projects since joining Twitter in October 2022, primarily concerning the Persona series. None of their assertions have yet been shown to be false, despite the fact that several are still up for debate. Because of their unblemished record, some fans have even gone so far as to conjecture that Atlus is either aware of Midori’s leaks or is OK with them. They contend that they could not have gotten away with disclosing such very private information for so long if the firm hadn’t been able to identify its source.

Persona 2 and 4 remakes are probably a long way off, even if they happen.

Thus, while it’s wise to treat any such reports with a grain of salt, Midori’s prior successes bode well for the likelihood that the Persona 2 and Persona 4 remakes are indeed in the works. Regarding the actual date of their release, it doesn’t seem probable that they will do so before the eagerly awaited sixth mainline entry is made available. The most recent report from Midori states that Persona 6 is aiming for a 2025 release, however there is no set date for its reveal.

Although Persona 4 has never been completely redone, Atlus did indeed give the second game in the series a remake when they released it on the PSP in 2011. Persona 2: Innocent Sin, which debuted on the PSP 12 years after the original’s PS1 premiere, has a Metacritic score of 75, making it one of the lowest-rated mainline games in the series. Many of the game’s design decisions and gameplay have drawn criticism, with some critics having already declared the game out of date in 2011. Despite this, the game continues to have a cult following due in part to its unforgettable plot, cast of characters, and music.
